FAQ
How much does therapy cost?
Therapy sessions fees range between $80 and $170 per session depending on the practitioner. Most insurance plans include mental health coverage, which may reimburse you for some or all session fees once you submit a claim. At Pivot, sliding scale spaces are available as well, meaning we reserve some spaces for clients who need to reduce fees to find therapy affordable.
What training do Pivot therapists have?
All our therapists have graduate level education and are licensed to provide psychotherapy in Ontario. We are all regulated health professionals who are passionate about what we do, and we take your care seriously.
Are student Interns licensed to practice psychotherapy as well?
Our dedicated student interns offer therapy sessions for $80 or less, making therapy more accessible for everyone. They are licensed with the regulatory body governing psychotherapy in Ontario and receive regular supervision to assure they are giving you informed and appropriate care.
Is therapy covered by OHIP?
Standard psychotherapy in private practice is not covered by OHIP, though visits to a medical doctor or psychiatrist for mental health support are covered.
Do I need a doctor's referral for therapy?
A medical referral is not required to see our psychotherapists, though some insurance policies might require one for reimbursement.
Does my insurance cover therapy sessions?
Private insurance, like that offered through an employer often includes coverage for mental health. Most plans require that practitioners are registered professionals and all of Pivot's therapists are.
The specifics of your coverage (like proportion reimbursed, which professional titles are covered or yearly maximums) can be clarified with your insurer.
Do you offer therapy sessions online?
All Pivot therapists offer online sessions through Jane App, an encrypted and PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act) compliant platform. This way you can prioritize convenience while protecting your privacy.
Do you offer therapy sessions in person?
Yes. Most of Pivot's therapists offer in person sessions from our light, inviting space in Nepean, Ottawa, located at 102 Centrepointe drive.
What will my therapist ask about?
Therapists will ask about your world including your social, occupational, physical and mental functioning. They will want to know what you want to work on, why it matters and what you'd like life to look like. Though our therapists are kind, open and accepting, our clients always take the lead. This is your journey and what you share is always up to you.
Will my therapist share what I tell them?
Your therapist will not disclose what you share with them. We take confidentiality seriously and only in very specific circumstances (such as to keep you or someone else safe) will we share anything with others. Your therapist will always go over these exceptions with you before beginning therapy and our consent forms will outline them too. No surprises!
How long are therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions are booked for an hour. That includes 50 minutes of time with your therapist and 10 minutes for them to document notes on the session and work on your treatment plan.
How do I choose a therapist?
If you read a therapist's profile and feel like you'd connect well you can go ahead and reach out or book with them online using our contact form, email or Book Now button. Otherwise, we are happy to answer general inquiries and help match you with a good fit based on your needs. All of Pivot's therapists also offer free 20-minute consults so that you can get to know a bit about how they work and how comfortable you feel with them.
